Job Summary: Reporting to the Branch Head or Assistant Manager, the incumbent provides service to the public, meeting established Library strategic objectives and service standards. Demonstrates and models conduct that adheres to the library’s policies and procedures in accordance with the Library’s vision, mission and values. The incumbent is a professional member of the Children’s and Teen Services team who works collaboratively within the teams and system-wide to ensure service priorities are met.


Job Requirements:


  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited library school.



  • Experience in the provision of library services including programming, information services, working with the community and collection management.  Experience in providing library services for children (early years and/or middle years) or a relevant combination of training and experience.

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of librarianship
  • Considerable knowledge of methods involved in providing library services and ability to apply the same
  • Working knowledge of the objectives, organization, procedures, services and resources of the library
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan, organize and carry out assigned duties with responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Ability to meet the public, promote interest in library services, assists library patrons and interpret and explain library policies and regulations
  • Ability to provide advice and direction to non-professional staff engaged in library clerical duties


Salary range: $33.6 to $39.56 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package.



Schedules one, two and three: Temporary Full Time at Children’s Library

These roles will be assigned to cover branch shifts on a Monday-Friday schedule.*


Schedules four, five & six: Temporary Full Time at Children’s Library

These roles will be assigned to cover branch shifts on a Tuesday-Saturday schedule.*


Schedule seven: one year TFT at Oakridge Library

Schedule to be provided once Oakridge Library’s re-open date has been established.


*Note: Hours of work will fall within a 9am-9pm range, generally 9:30am to 6:30pm or thereabouts including one evening shift per week ending at 9pm, possibly more.  Work schedules may be variable depending upon the needs of the branch, and may change with reasonable notice.

  • We will no longer be shaking hands at the introduction and conclusion of the interview
  • Where to sit will be clearly indicated and where possible chairs with hard surfaces and without arm rests will be used
  • High-touch areas (e.g. the hard surfaces of the chair and table) will be wiped down after each interview with disinfecting wipes
