Main Purpose & Function 
To perform a variety of duties related to on-street parking programs, including responding to requests for residential permit parking and administering parking surveys. This position reports to the Engineering Assistant III (Assistant Supervisor, Residential Permit Parking) and performs duties for others in the branch, as needed.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Answers technical inquiries in-person, via phone and via email
  • Prepares opinion surveys and presentation materials
  • Conducts field investigations
  • Prepares and draws basic designs for parking control measures
  • Maintains files, supplies and equipment
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned



Education and Experience:

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented with related drafting courses
  • Some experience in general office, clerical, and/or junior drafting work required
  • Post-secondary training in Civil Engineering technology or Transportation Engineering principles is preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • The ability to use AutoCAD would be an asset
  • Proven ability to work well on a team in a business environment
  • Proven ability to work with little or no supervision under tight timelines
  • Experience and a proven ability to problem solve with accuracy and detail in a technical environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with co-workers
  • Proven ability to be flexible and to accommodate operational needs of the department


Driver’s License and Record Checks:

  • A current and valid BC Driver’s License and a safe driving record are required.
  • The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out job responsibilities.
  • Local area travel and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements
