Main Purpose and Function

The Project Manager (PM) with Equipment Services (EQS) manages small operations technology projects or sub projects of a larger operations project. The PM is involved in all phases of the projects including planning, execution, control and closeout. The PM reports to the Superintendent III in EQS and has a dotted line to the IT Project Manager II for reporting of project progress and issues.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of operational technology projects of medium to high complexity
  • Manages project teams to successfully deliver projects including assigning work, specifying deliverables, timelines, setting expectations and hiring. The team members could be internal Department staff or external temporary staff or consultants
  • Monitors performance of project team members and takes corrective actions if required. Coaches and mentors team members
  • Makes effective recommendation to project sponsors on engagement of consultants
  • Plans out projects in detail, identifying project scope, budget and schedule as well as project risks, project organization and project management approach
  • Executes projects according to the Project Charter. Organizes and leads meetings with project team, stakeholders and vendors as needed and manages actions arising from them
  • Facilitates stakeholder inputs to arrive at optimum solution




Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration or related discipline
  • Engineer applicants must be registered or eligible to register  as an EIT or P.Eng in British Columbia
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a Senior Systems Analyst, Business Analyst in IT Systems and/or business improvement projects

  • Strong written, verbal communication and public speaking skills
  • Ability to manage large workloads and multitask effectively
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in assigning and supervising work of others
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with technical and professional staff, as well as customer departments
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to focus on details, while maintaining a balanced high-level view of an assignment
  • Experience reconciling differing perspectives, developing consensus, and securing cooperation and support from both customers and team members
  • Well-developed change management skills and ability to assist others with adapting to change
  • Good understanding and interest in current technologies and issues related to IT infrastructure and IT systems development and/or operations technology
