We are looking for a dynamic business advisory/management consulting professional to join our team as an Associate Director, Strategic Business Advisory. The is a senior position, responsible for leading a team of business strategy advisors and project support staff within the City of Vancouver’s Business Planning and Project Support Office (BPPS). BPPS is an internal consulting firm, providing business advisory and project support services to all City of Vancouver departments.


The Associate Director, Strategic Business Advisory manages and resolves issues for a large portfolio of dynamic, high-impact, fast-paced projects. The majority of projects under management are part of the City’s highest-priority Corporate Plan initiatives, are high-profile, high-dollar value and/or high-risk, and have significant operational and/or financial implications.  The Associate Director serves as a trusted business advisor to the City’s operational and corporate business unit staff and management, and at the same time actively manages resource deployment, performance, productivity, development and engagement of their team members. The Associate Director is part of the Business Planning and Project Support senior leadership team, and holds ultimate responsibility for the quality of the services provided and value added by the BPPS teams he/she leads. This position regularly works directly with the City Manager and members of the City’s executive team.

We are looking for someone who brings a combination of strategic leadership talent, sophisticated business acumen, and a proven ability to effectively manage a wide range of high-profile projects with tight budgets, schedules and deadlines, and who enjoys operating in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. In addition, this person will excel at preparing and delivering clear and concise reports on complex technical, policy and strategy issues to a variety of audiences ranging from senior executives, City Council, strategic business partners, community stakeholders and technical staff members.


The successful candidate will bring at least twelve years’ experience in a corporate or institutional environment, with increasing responsibility for leading teams in complex business advisory, project management, and/or business relationship management related work. They will have least eight years’ experience managing staff, ideally at a private sector management consulting firm. Experience working in an environment that balances public policy and business objectives is a definite asset for this position, as is knowledge of/experience with local government, and/or specifically the City of Vancouver.
