Worksite:  Children’s and Teen Services, Central Branch
Role Type: Fully on-site

This role works in the Children’s & Teen Services Department at our Central Library, but may be occasionally redeployed.  Applicants must be prepared to work at any location in the VPL system and work schedules may change with reasonable notice.

Job Summary: Working under the direction of the Head, Children’s Library, the Student Children’s Librarian provides reference and information services to the public, delivers library programs for children and teens, performs collection development tasks, participates in training and workshops, answers direction and general information questions regarding location of material, facilities or other matters, and assists in special projects. This is professional library work at the trainee level.

Education/Qualifications:

• Candidates must be currently enrolled in the MLIS program in September 2026 and be graduating in 2027.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Some knowledge of the practices and principles of librarianship.
• Some knowledge of the objectives, organization, procedures, services and resources of the subject division or branch.
• Some knowledge of the division or branch’s collections and related resource materials.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to meet the public, promote interest in library services and assist library patrons.

Employment Type: Temporary Part Time, May 11th through August 28th, 2026, with the possibility for extension or curtailment
Salary: $31.66 to $37.20 per hour 
Work Schedule: 

Schedule 1 – 16 Hours per Week

Sunday: 11:00am - 6:00pm (6)
Monday: 1:00pm - 8:00pm (6)
Wednesday: 9:30am - 1:30pm (4)

Schedule 2 – 16 Hours per Week

Saturday: 10:00am - 5:00pm (6)
Tuesday: 10:00am - 5:00pm (6)
Thursday: 4:00pm - 8:00pm (4)
