Main Purpose & Function 
The Electronics Technician will perform a variety of shop and field duties which includes the installation, repair and maintenance of traffic signal & radio-related equipment and other electronics equipment.

        

An Electronics Technician, where necessary, shall be required to be on standby and call out duty as operationally required.

 

Functional and/or physical assessment related to the bona fide position requirements may be required.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Installing, troubleshooting, testing and servicing traffic signal-related equipment such as traffic controllers, video cameras, pedestrian-audible equipment, power supplies, conflict monitors and other electronics equipment at various traffic intersections.
  • Installing, troubleshooting, testing & servicing radio-related and other electronics equipment.
  • Using a variety of tools and specialized electronic test equipment as required
  • Maintaining accurate paper-based and computer-based records of installation, testing, maintenance and other tasks.
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Electronic Technologist/Technician program, minimum 2 years.
  • Hands-on experience in servicing and installing traffic signal equipment is an asset.
  • Considerable experience in a large, complex, managed service facility is an asset.
  • Familiarity with network topology and streaming video distribution techniques, experience with technical writing, high or low-level programming, board-level repairs of microprocessor-based systems, PLC experience, communications experience with modems, copper and fiber and UPS systems are assets.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with the use of computers and office software, as well as solid troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Ability to read and understand technical service manuals is mandatory.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to handle the physical aspects of the position and work in inclement weather when necessary.
  • Ability to understand and follow safe work guidelines and procedures and to work in a safe manner.
  • Ability to walk or stand continuously with frequent bending or twisting.
  • Ability to work on ladders, elevated areas and/or confined spaces.

 

Driver’s License and Record Checks:

  • A current and valid BC Driver’s License and a Satisfactory driving record
    • 5 years accumulation of no more than 9 points, not in excess of 3 points per single year
    • 3 years accumulation of no more than 1 preventable work related driving or equipment operating accident in any single year
    • Candidates who do not demonstrate a satisfactory driving record will have their application reviewed in more detail
