Main Purpose & Function
Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, Golf Operations, is comprised of three (3) Championship length courses, Fraserview, Langara, and McCleery, as well as three (3) Pitch and Putt properties.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The Course Marshal is responsible for ensuring that players are moving about without undue delay around these Championship courses. The position would investigate and remove causes of bottlenecks on the golf courses. The Course Marshal also patrols the golf course on foot or by driving a motorized golf cart to observe players and to ensure that people do not enter the course by unauthorized means.
The Course Marshal checks players' tickets to ensure that only those who have paid admission use the course. This position also ensures that regulations for the golf course are complied with. The Course Marshal will perform related work as required.
As the golf operation is open 7 days a week, the successful candidate must be able to work a variety of days and shifts including evenings and weekends. The successful candidate must also be available to work at multiple golf course locations either on foot or by driving a motorized golf cart.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Some related work experience at a golf course.
- Experience as a golf course marshal or experience in golf course operations is preferred but note that specific training is provided.
- Experience in any industry where emphasis is on an exceptional customer experience.
- Current and Valid BC Driver's License is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong people skills geared to resolving problems and keeping good customer relations.
- Ability to engage and deal courteously and effectively with the public.
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with, and to enforce, the policies and rules of the course.
- Responsible for assuring that the golfers pace of play is within the set expectations for the course.
- Performance of other duties as required such as maintenance and cleaning of golf course items.
- Working knowledge of golf course policies and rules.
- Working knowledge of the rules of golfing.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 20 kg
- Transportation arrangements must meet operational requirements of the Department.
Drivers License and Record Checks
Candidates must attach the following records and satisfy the City’s driving requirements to be considered for this role:
- Copy of your five-year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) directly from ICBC dated within 14 days of this posting
- Copy of your five-year ICBC Driver’s Claims History directly from ICBC within 14 days of this posting
- If you have less than five years driving experience in BC, a request must be made for out of province/country abstract and claims history
