Job Summary: Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Communications, the incumbent provides graphic design services to support internal and external facing documents, digital assets, and physical spaces for the Vancouver Public Library.
This is skilled creative and technical work in the design and preparation of promotional and informational material. The incumbent develops and recommends design concepts, formats, and production methods appropriate to the communications objectives; designs and produces images and information for multiple media platforms using manual and computer graphics techniques, photography or videography; coordinates production with internal and external contacts as appropriate; and develops design standards and templates.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Diploma in graphic design, multimedia design or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution plus considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of design principles, desktop publishing and layout techniques, including visual identity creation and branding.
- Demonstrated experience in print and digital graphic design projects.
- Considerable knowledge of accessibility standards and universal design for print, digital and web.
- Expert user in Adobe Creative Suite (including, but not limited to: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Premiere Pro), and/or related software.
- Sound knowledge of printing processes as they relate to the work performed.
- Sound knowledge of corporate communications objectives and requirements as they relate to the work performed.
- Sound knowledge in photography, videography, audio recording, and related equipment.
- Working knowledge of social media (Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and other related products) design specifications and standards.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.

Salary: $42.04 to $49.65 per hour
Work Schedule:
Schedule 1 (Regular Full-Time):
Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm
Schedule 2 (Posted Part-Time, 28 Hours):
Monday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Tuesday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Wednesday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Thursday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
