Main Purpose & Function
The Operations Worker III is responsible for skilled and semiskilled construction and maintenance of park structures and buildings. This role often involves physically demanding work and may involve working in hazardous conditions. Operations Worker III’s are responsible for adhering to established work and safety standards. Depending on the complexity of the work required, may work under close direction, guidance and supervision of Journeyman Trades people.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The Operations Worker III is responsible for the construction and maintenance of park facilities and outdoor assets such as benches, picnic tables, fountains, retaining walls, concrete surfaces, and tile surfaces. Concrete duties include formwork, placing, finishing and repair work. Masonry duties cutting stone, mixing mortar, paving stone repairs and assisting the Journeyman Masons. Tile duties include grouting, caulking, minor tile repair, and assisting the Journeyman Tile setter when required. Other responsibilities include Roof cleaning, Inspections, and Power washing.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Completion of 12th grade including or supplemented by related technical courses.
- Experience in the operation of a wide variety of hand tools, hydraulic, pneumatic, electric and gas-powered tools including motorized construction and maintenance equipment, such as, but not limited to generators, saws, pumps, power washers, jack hammers, rotary hammer drills, etc
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Moderate knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and materials used in construction maintenance
- Experience in Concrete, Tile Setting, and Masonry work is an Asset
- Working knowledge of City of Vancouver Bylaws, safety standards
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and other staff.
- Ability to exercise considerable independent of judgement and initiate action for the work.
- Ability to follow written (blueprints, work orders, and sketches) as well as verbal instructions and maintain accurate records.
Drivers License and Record Checks
Candidates must attach the following records and satisfy the City’s driving requirements to be considered for this role:
- Copy of your five-year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) directly from ICBC dated within 14 days of this posting
- Copy of your five-year ICBC Driver’s Claims History directly from ICBC within 14 days of this posting
- If you have less than five years driving experience in BC, a request must be made for out of province/country abstract and claims history
