Main Purpose and Function

The Program Coordinator provides oversight of Britannia Child Care (onsite child care's) operations including budget and financial oversight, building and grounds maintenance, and the supervision of staff. They provide leadership, supervision and support to the child care centre’s Senior Supervisors (BCGEU Affiliation) and supports the work of the Child Care Manager. They carry out their responsibilities within the purview of the collective agreement, Britannia human resource and child care policy and procedures, health and safety guidelines, government legislation, child care facilities licensing and any other relevant regulations or legislation.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator (Child Care Department) reports directly to the Manager of Child Care Services.

  • Makes visible and alive the mission, vision, core values and strategic direction of Britannia and the Child Care Department.
  • Ensures that the child care centres operate in accordance with all relevant child care regulatory legislation, contracts, collective agreement and Britannia’s policies and procedures.
  • Provides direction and acts as a mentor to the Senior Supervisors providing them opportunities to expand their leadership skills.
  • Supports families from diverse cultures and provides a culturally sensitive curriculum.
  • Provides direction and mentorship of quality programming that is collaborative, reflective, inclusive and inquiry based. Plans and organizes the inclusion of Indigenous culture and activities in the child care centre curriculum.
  • Supports the 360-recruitment process, provides ongoing support, information, resources and training to child care centre staff, and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Supports human resource and licensing issues, complaints, and investigations.
  • Builds meaningful working relationships and communication with staff, families, board, licensing officers, community professionals, funders, Indigenous partners and community.
  • Supports the Child Care Manager in developing budgets, monitoring centre budgets, assists with grant applications, reports to funders, and maintains financial records.
  • Completes reports, promotion and advertising, keeps policies and manuals current, evaluates and maintains statistics.
  • Maintains and prepares centre inventories and reports, ensures properties and equipment are maintained, and sits on the OH&S committee.
  • Research new child care location opportunities, assist with new child care developments, and is involved in new child care set up.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all matters pertaining to staff, clients, board and the organization.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education plus considerable related ECE and supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • First Aid training and certification required.
  • Experience working with children and families with diverse needs.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of early childhood education.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, techniques and practices involved in child care program planning, coordination and implementation as it relates to the work performed.
  • Sound knowledge of the fundamentals of program coordination and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of the policies of the governing agency in relation to program coordination.
  • Ability to recommend, plan and coordinate projects, activities and events within the overall program mandate.
  • Ability to provide guidance and information to others on matters related to the program, and to monitor and evaluate program initiatives.
  • Ability to organize, motivate and oversee the work of others engaged in delivering programs, and to recruit volunteers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to develop and deliver training sessions, workshops and presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain liaison with a variety of individuals, community groups and agencies and to promote the program and its activities.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to the work and to estimate budgets and monitor expenditures.

Salary Information: Pay Grade 21: $37.20 to $43.78 per hour
