Main Purpose & Function

The Site Supervisor I is a routine supervisory position responsible for leading and directing the work of one or more subordinates engaged in various unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

The Site Supervisor I will supervise and participate in the work of one or more subordinates engaged in a variety of parks maintenance tasks such as Baseball diamond maintenance, mowing, turf maintenance, curb dressing, leaf removal, drainage maintenance, brush removal, tree trimming and/or sports area maintenance. The incumbent will coordinate the equipment used on the job site and under direction, will direct and participate in the work of a small group of subordinates engaged in special projects such as turf renovation, baseball renovation, construction and landscaping. You will be towing a trailer daily. The Site Supervisor I is responsible for providing feedback to superiors on crew performance; ensuring that regulations regarding lunch breaks and rest breaks are adhered to; preparing and maintaining timesheets and routine work records, transporting materials, tools, equipment and crew members to worksites, providing information or direction in response to public inquiries and ensuring that safety precautions and regulations are observed and subordinates are instructed on safe and proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • The successful completion of Grade 12 plus sound related experience, and some experience as a crew leader or equivalent combination of training and experience is desired.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Sound knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures, materials, tools and equipment used in parks or utilities maintenance, repair and construction projects.
  • Considerable knowledge in turf maintenance, baseball diamond maintenance, layout and alignment of baseball and soft ball dugout maintenance, seasonal maintenance schedules, able to identify safety issues related to field conditions, sport field renovations and irrigation practices
  • Sound knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions required in the work.
  • Ability to plan, assign, supervise and participate in the work of subordinates engaged in a variety of maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to act as a lead hand to a group of subordinates and equipment operators engaged in very large construction projects.
  • Ability to work under general supervision on routine assignments.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain time sheets and records and to work from plans and sketches.
  • Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the work.

 

Driver’s License and Record Checks:

  • Candidates must attach the following to be considered for this role:
    • Copy of your five-year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) directly from ICBC dated within 14 days of this posting
    • Copy of your five-year ICBC Driver’s Claims History directly from ICBC within 14 days of this posting
  • If you have less than five years driving experience in BC, a request must be made for out of province/country abstract and claims history
