Role Type: Fully on-site

Job Summary: Working collaboratively within their team and system-wide, the incumbent undertakes skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance of VPL buildings and equipment.  Work includes carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing and mechanical duties at a below Journeyman level.  Assignments are received from a superior with some guidance from other branches or divisions.    The incumbent represents the VPL's vision, mission and values by demonstrating and modeling conduct that reflects the VPL's policies and procedures.

 

 

Job Requirements:

Education/Qualifications/Experience:

  • Completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by training in the painting, plumbing, carpentry or electrical trades plus considerable experience in the building maintenance trade OR equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in the painting, plumbing, carpentry and electrical trades and general building maintenance.

 

  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and precautionary measures as related to the building maintenance trade and general maintenance.

 

  • Sound knowledge of the operation and maintenance of lighting and power systems as related to the work performed.

 

  • Working knowledge of the operation and repair of automated materials handling unit (AMH), compact shelving systems and coinboxes.

 

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with VPL staff.

 

  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools related to the work.

 

  • Strength and agility in tasks such as climbing ladders and working on scaffolding or in cramped and awkward positions.

 

  • Superior manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.

 

Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations:

  • Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia

Salary: $36.62 to $42.97 per hour 
Work Schedule: 

 

Thursday to Monday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
